23-24 Season: Part 1

Here I am, in the middle of my 23-24 season with lots of updates to share. The holidays were spent under the sea with Slow Burn’s The Little Mermaid, followed by some work on a short documentary for United Way of South Florida, a premiere screening of a short film, a PSA about natural gases and the harm they can do to your home, and Cabaret with Zoetic stage! Lots of fun stuff on the horizon too :)

Cabaret runs from March 15-April 7th. For tickets, click HERE

This Year So Far

March is just around the corner, and 2023 is off to a great start! I just closed the world premiere of The Science of Leaving Omaha with Palm Beach DramaWorks as their female understudy. Up next is a Co-Production of I wanna F#%*ing Tear You Apart with Island City Stage (Wilton Manors) and Out Front Theatre Company (Atlanta). We run March 2-April 2 at Island City Stage. Tickets here!

Happy 2022

This is not a Happy New Year post, as it is October. But, there have been no 2022 updates, so here we are! South Florida theater is alive and well, and plenty of performances are being produced every month. I have had the pleasure of being in Sister Act with MNM Theatre Company and Matilda with Slowburn Theatre Company in the spring, and costume design New City Player’s production of Water by the Spoonful.

After vacations and several weddings. The 22-23 season has begun! NCP is well into pre-production for It’s a Wonderful Life, which I am the co-production and costume designer. I am also prepping to start rehearsals for Red Speedo with Plays Of Wilton and Ronnie Larsen Presents. And that’s only the beginning!

Live Theater is BACK!

It’s finally happening! Among zoom readings and masked events, things are starting to look up! I had a few exciting opportunities that I wanted to share. I spent the end of the summer working on a few awesome projects and shows:

TWELFTH NIGHT at PALM BEACH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

I had a wonderful time playing Maria in this beautiful rendition of Twelfth Night. We had a score composed by the Lubben Brothers, which they performed live every night, and a totally stellar cast.

NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME- A new play!

Not Ready for Prime Time is a new play by Erik J. Rodriguez and Charles A. Sother. It’s about the beginnings of Saturday Night Live, and is being workshopped and produced later this year. We had a staged reading earlier this month, directed by Conor Bagley and produced by Willie Fernandez. The play shows the more serious side of the original cast of SNL, and throws in some fun facts and nostaglia as well. It is an honor to play Jane Curtin with a fantastic cast of actors.

There are a few more things on my calendar for the 2021-22 season that I will be announcing soon! What a joy it is to be performing again!

Listen Up!

Obviously, I’ve had a busy couple of months! Who do I think I am, posting more than once a week? Hello, Mom! I know you’re most likely the only person reading this anyway… However, on the slight chance that you’re not my mom, I would love to tell you about another incredible project I had the pleasure of working on!

Little Montgomery is a scripted podcast series written by Stephen Brown and produced by New City Players. It’s about a couple of teenage girls that decide to kidnap a country music star in rural Texas. There are laughs and twists and even a couple songs. Trust me, it’s a hoot.

This podcast can be listened to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or anywhere else where you choose to listen! It’s perfect to listen to during long drives, chores, walks, or even when you want to ignore the people you’ve been quarantined with for 7 months (turn that volume wayyy up, baby).

And did I mention, it’s free! For more info about the Podcast and links to listen, click here.

And now for your comedic pleasure, here is my homemade “sound studio” where I recorded the entirety of this podcast. Please try to ignore the utter chaos that is my closet.

My closet COVERED in blankets and pillows… on purpose!! It’s more soundproof or whatever!! Right??

My dog Barry often visited me while recording. (Please ignore a full bin of dirty clothes behind me)

Curious?

Looking for something lighthearted and fun to watch with the kids, or on your own? Look no further! Curious George and the Golden Meatball is a fun and silly musical adventure that’s fun for the whole family! I was so excited to rehearse (with safety protocols in place) at one of my favorite venues, Broward Center for the Performing arts, with one of my favorite companies, Slow Burn Theatre Co.! This show was filmed so it could be safe for everyone to watch from the comfort of their own home.

Curious George goes on an adventure to enter his friend Chef Pisgetti’s amazing meatballs into the Golden Meatball Contest in Rome. What’s the secret ingredient? You’ll have to watch to find out!

We air this Saturday (10/3) at 12 pm and 2 pm. You can order tickets here. See you then!

It's curious George, The Golden Meatball. Join Curious George, The inquisitive lovable Monkey Star of books movies and more in a brand new musical adventure. Learn all about travel friendship and the secret ingredient to cooking.

The beauty of live theater

Just a little story I’d like to share about my awesome experience with Palm Beach Drama(in the)works, reading ‘how it feels to fall from the sky’ by Dominic Finocchiaro earlier this week. On top of this being a gorgeous play, we had such a talented group of actors and fabulous Bruce Linser as our director. Great experience from the get go.

BUT the real star of Monday night’s performance was my electricity going out IN THE MIDDLE of the play. I felt my adrenaline kick in and my fiancé (Ralfi) and I ran around screaming*, trying to find a way to regain internet and lighting my face all before my next scene. Before I knew it, I had a hotspot and Ralfi holding/taping mini flashlights to my tripod in pitch black. We were back on without a (super obvious) hitch. It was a theater miracle from my bedroom. I felt so much joy performing. And the greatest joy was in the thick of craziness. And so much joy having a kick ass partner who read my mind while I was screaming incoherent sounds in pitch black.

* I know I said before that we both ran around screaming, but it was really just me sitting there screaming, and him running around doing the work of a very experienced Deck Electrician (of which he has no actual experience).

What a joy to feel a little rush of a live performance again. Here’s a couple pics of our thrown together set up.

Are we pulling our hair out yet?

I have to be honest. I have been close. But thank god I’ve had some pretty cool projects keeping me busy over the summer. Today I’m going to focus on one medium in particular, because, let’s face it, I wouldn’t be an actor in 2020 if I didn’t mention at least ONE Zoom reading!! Come on y’all! It’s a right of passage at this point! When I’m an old lady I fully expect to tell young actors “When I was your age, we couldn’t even act in the same room as our peers! Be grateful you can make eye contact with a human instead of a camera!! Kids these days..” Of course, by then we’ll all be half cyborg anyway. Who knows what we’ll be making eye contact with…

All this to say, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a bunch of amazing artists over zoom in 2020. And tonight is no exception. I’m so excited to join Palm Beach Dramaworks for their Drama(in the works) series tonight at 7:30 pm. We will be reading Dominic Finocchiaro’s How it Feels to Fall from The Sky. It’s a truly beautiful play, and I cannot wait to join some amazing South Florida actors to read it.

The reading is free! If you’d like to receive a Zoom link for tonight’s reading, click here.

I’ll leave you with some stills of a couple of awesome zoom collaborations I’ve been a part of this summer. More projects I’ve been working on will be announced soon!

In all realness though, Black Lives Matter, Climate Change is real, and please VOTE this Nov. But before that, escape tonight with a little story telling :)

Staying Inside and Creative

Its officially been a month and a half since theaters across the globe have turned on their ghost lights until further notice. Instead of screaming into the void and contemplating what this all means for my community, I have been focusing on my craft. Lessons, workshops, writing, and creating with people around the country. I am grateful for the arts now more than ever. What would any of us do with out music? Movies? Crafts? Puzzles?? POPCORN? Okay I’m aware popcorn isn’t an art, but seriously I don’t know how I would be getting through this pandemic without it.

Anyway, I thought I’d share one of my favorite projects so far, a virtual orchestra and choir of amazing female musicians. The project was created by Shelbie Rassler (the genius behind the “What The World Needs Now” viral video ) for an organization called The Female Quotient. Once all of our voices and instruments were put together, this song came to life in an incredible way. When I was filming it alone, on the other hand, I had to overcome a few obstacles of my own. Enjoy both ends of this project: the finished product, and my own journey filming. Apologies in advance for the language.

March Projects

March 2020 is starting off with a bang! In the past 4 days, I have been bouncing all over South Florida for rehearsals, performances, and shoots.

Tuesday I had a blast shooting a commercial for a very well loved convenience/gas station chain…. the name I cannot disclose at this moment… however let’s just say shooting their commercial made me happy as a… goose?

Meet “Mendy”

The day after I had the opportunity to help give a voice to young playwrights during the annual Young Playwrights 10 Minute Play Contest, produced by Macy’s and Palm Beach Dramaworks. We performed staged readings of 10 different plays.

And through all of this, I have been working on the administration side of things at Miami New Drama at the Colony Theatre. We are currently producing the world premiere of A Wonderful World, a musical about the life of Louis Armstrong. It’s Fantastic, I highly recommend it!

No job? No problem.

All performers I know have a schedule that is totally unpredictable and sporadic. Mine is no different. With that said, I’ve been using my free time with no contracts to focus on my craft and my work. Along with auditioning in New York and beyond, I’ve been trying to take classes and write so I can continue to stay relevant and inspired.

Here’s a tidbit of one of my most recent lessons with Lexie Sharp of Sharp Studios NYC. We took some time to tackle a favorite song of mine, ‘Even Though’ from I Love You, Because.

So until the next contract, I’m taking time to make sure adventures continue even when I’m not onstage.

First day of school!

Here’s my obligatory first day picture! We’ve officially started rehearsals for A Christmas Story: The Musical and it looks like we have a great group of kids and grown-up kids on our hands! So excited to be spending my holidays in the beautiful Broward Center for the Performing Arts for the second show of Slow Burn Theater Company’s 10th season. I’ll be running on and off stage as Flick’s Mom, one of Santa’s Elves, and various other ensemble roles for the rest of 2019.

We run from December 13th-29th. For tickets, click here!

Happy Halloween!

I have to say, my costume as the Wicked Witch in Shrek could not be more appropriate for Halloween. I’m head to toe in orange, purple, and green, adorned with spiders, webs, and black cats. We had an incredibly successful opening weekend, complete with a champagne reception and fan art! We have two more weeks with this awesome show, hope to see you there!

In the mean time, goodwill and my own closet helped me throw together this number. Watch your saloons and bank safes… This town ain’t big enough for the both of us… etc etc etc…

Next Adventure

Very excited to be starting rehearsals for my first show in over a year! I’ll be playing the Wicked Witch in Shrek The Musical at Slow Burn Theatre Company. Now I must go, as I have not perfected my witch cackle or Quidditch skills…

Shrek runs from October 25th to November 10th at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I'm back!

Hello world!

After traveling around the US and Canada for the last year, I am finally off tour and back in South Florida! I am so excited to trade in my backstage blacks for some wigs and dance shoes. My time in the Wardrobe Department with the first national tour of School of Rock was not only a huge learning experience, but an amazing adventure filled with friends, family, and fun. Some of my favorite adventures include….

  • My own little corner- Yes, I mean it. The National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Canada is home to ‘Casey’s Corner’— named after a stagehand. I stood under the sign much too often.

  • Halloween in New Orleans- spent time with friends and got surprised by my boyfriend. We managed to put together the perfect costume in less than a day.

  • Dogsledding in Canada- around 2 hours north of Toronto we met some very special friends! One of my favorite things I’ve ever done. Genius xmas present, mom!

  • Women’s March on Washington- We happened to be working at The National Theatre in Washington DC at the same time as the Women’s March. I joined a few kick ass women and marched before call time!

  • Singing!- I actually got a chance to perform at our Broadway Cares-Equity Fights AIDS Cabaret in Cleveland, OH. I had a blast being able to be on stage, even if it was only for a few minutes.

  • Promotion- My wonderful supervisor (Kaitlyn, you taught me everything I know, I owe it all to you) left us to work on Hamilton in Chicago (woo!) and I stepped up to Wardrobe Supervisor. Forever grateful to my assistant, Mykey, who helped with the big change.

I could go on forever. So many buttons sewn, trucks loaded, and life long friends made. The hiking pictures alone would take up my whole website. I’ll leave a few photos for fun, but there’s always facebook for that.
